The most important thing in life isn’t just self-expression. Self-expression is undeniably important — after all, it is the very reason we exist: to express our individuality. But even more important than expressing yourself is helping others express themselves.
Expressing yourself in a way that leaves others indifferent isn’t truly fulfilling. Without considering how others receive it, self-expression loses its meaning. That’s why it’s profoundly beautiful when you give others the space and opportunity to express themselves. The most wonderful experience is when you can express yourself while also supporting others in expressing who they truly are.
This idea isn’t original to me. It comes from universal wisdom, and I’m simply grateful to have been open to receiving it.
There is incredible depth in this understanding, even if it’s not immediately obvious. Helping others express themselves is one of the purest forms of love — total acceptance, creation, and permission to simply be. And when you express yourself while making space for others to do the same, that love multiplies; it becomes love squared. It is a kind of love so profound that I can hardly imagine anything deeper.
If this were the only wisdom I ever gained in my life, it would be enough to know that my life was meaningful.
Of course, I’m still learning and growing into this understanding. Since I first connected with it, I have been trying to see my life through this lens. I won’t get into how much it has already shifted my sense of self. Though only a little time has passed, and I’m not always conscious of it, when I am, I realize I have never experienced anything purer or deeper. No great love in my life compares to the feeling of creating space for even one person to fully express themselves, to simply be, to grow, and to shine as their true, unique self.
It is simply beautiful.
